The Sifu of NBWK, Michael DiMaggio, was an Avionics Technician with the United States Marine Corps from 1985-1989. Following his service, Sifu was involved in a serious accident as a 20,000 pound front end loader left him walking with a walker at only 22 years old. His hip was fractured in six places and put pack together with an external fixator device. His lung was collapsed due to a broken rib and he had two broken bones in his spine. It was following this tragedy that Sifu was introduced to kung fu by way of his cousin, Susan Dineen.
